York County House Republicans Congratulate Saylor on Election to Key Budget Position
11/15/2016
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion) has been elected majority chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, which is charged with passing legislation related to state government spending and evaluating the fiscal impact of individual bills. During the 2015-16 session, Saylor served as majority chairman of the House Education Committee and was elected majority whip for the 2013-14 session, the highest-ranking position achieved by any York County Republican in state government.

Members of the York County delegation of the House Republican Caucus, Reps. Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam), Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township), and Rep.-elect Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg), issued the following statement in reaction to today’s vote:

“We congratulate Rep. Saylor on the decision of his peers to elect him majority chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. In this role, his primary responsibility will be crafting the budget for each of the next two sessions of the General Assembly.

“Stan’s position as a fiscal conservative will serve him well when it comes to continuing to rein in state government spending. He has been a strong advocate for performance-based budgeting that would mirror practices in the private sector, and played a key role during the 2015-16 session in fighting for a fair funding formula for Pennsylvania’s public schools. Stan also successfully amended House Bill 504 to include dollar-for-dollar property tax relief for Pennsylvania homeowners.

“We look forward to supporting him in this new role as he serves Pennsylvania on a statewide basis, while continuing to fight for the residents of the 94th Legislative District.”
