Saylor Praises Habitat Improvement Grants
9/8/2016
HARRISBURG – Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) today urged watershed partners and stewards to take advantage of a grant funding opportunity that is now available to address habitat improvement and sediment reduction projects in York County.

The York County Conservation District this week announced the grant program and funding is being provided by Exelon Generation Company.

Saylor commended Exelon for committing to fund the grant program at $225,000 annually through 2030 as part of its water quality certification from the state Department of Environmental Protection.

“The York County Conservation District has done great work working with farmers and our residents to enhance habitat and water quality in our communities,” Saylor said. “Exelon has shown itself to be an active partner in environmental and wildlife conservation. The folks at the conservation district have done much to help improve our land, waterways and the Chesapeake Bay Watershed overall.”

To be eligible, projects must be located in York County and be a habitat improvement or a sediment reduction project.

  • $75,000 is the maximum project funding.
  • A project may include multiple practices on the same property.
  • Applicant must be the landowner/operator with written permission from the landowner.
  • Practice implementation should occur within 6-12 months of contract approval.
  • All necessary local, state and federal permits must be obtained before installation may begin.
  • The practices must be maintained for five years after their completion.
  • Design and construction standards will be determined by the appropriate BMP technical standards.
  • Federal W-9 form must be completed and filed with the signed agreement.
