Saylor Announces 2016 Flag Day Celebration in Red Lion
RED LION – Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) announced today that Red Lion’s annual Flag Day event will be held in Fairmount Park on Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m.

“We started this event three years ago and it has really taken hold as an annual event the entire community looks forward to kicking off the summer with,” Saylor said. “Talking about American history on Flag Day really helps us remember that America is also the idea of freedom as much as we are the embodiment of it.”

The National Anthem will be sung by Becky Bailey of Red Lion and live music will be provided by the Red Lion Felton Band.

Groups participating in and organizing the Flag Day event are: the Korean War Veterans Association of York Chapter 178; Red Lion Elks Lodge 1592; Red Lion American Legion Post 543; Red Lion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1446 and Red Lion Borough.

The borough will hold Fairmount Fun Days, which includes games, a community barbecue and the opening of Fairmount Park’s splash pad for the season immediately following the ceremony.

Since its creation in 1916, Flag Day has commemorated the adoption of the United States flag. From the 13 stars representing the original colonies to the present 50, the American flag has been a symbol of freedom and liberty throughout the world.
