Saylor Announces 2015 Flag Day Celebration in Red Lion
RED LION – Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) announced today that Red Lion’s annual Flag Day event will be held in Fairmount Park on Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m.

“Since my office first coordinated with Red Lion Borough and area civic groups and organizations to hold our first Flag Day celebration in 2013, it has become one of our largest local patriotic events of the year and many residents continue to tell me how much they look forward to it,” Saylor said.

Mayor Steven Kopp will welcome attendees, Red Lion native Allie Hynoski will sing the National Anthem, and Rep. Saylor will offer remarks on the flag. The Red Lion Elks will close with a history and a folding of the flag. The Red Lion Felton band will provide live music.

The borough will hold Fairmount Fun Days, which includes games, a community barbecue and the opening of Fairmont Park’s splash pad for the season immediately following the ceremony.

Groups participating in and organizing the Flag Day event are: the Korean War Veterans Association of York Chapter 178; Red Lion Elks Lodge 1592; Red Lion American Legion Post 543; Red Lion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1446; Red Lion Borough; and the Kaltreider-Benfer Library.

Since its creation in 1916, Flag Day has commemorated the adoption of the United States flag. From the 13 stars representing the original colonies to the present 50, the American flag has been a symbol of freedom and liberty throughout the world.
