Saylor Announces Continuation of Red Lion Flag Day
RED LION – Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) announced today that his office will again coordinate with Red Lion Borough and area civic groups and organizations to hold a Flag Day celebration similar to last year’s well-attended affair. The event will be held in Fairmount Park on Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

“Knowing how patriotic our community is, we thought having an event to celebrate national Flag Day would be well received, but we had no idea it would turn out to be as popular as it did,” Saylor said. “For days and weeks afterward, we heard from folks who complimented the event and hoped it would not be a one-time thing.”

This year, Allie Hynoski of Red Lion will sing the National Anthem to open the ceremony and many local veterans will be in attendance. The borough will hold a community barbecue and open Fairmount Park’s splash pad for the season immediately following the ceremony.

“On April 29, Allie came to Harrisburg to sing the National Anthem to open the 2014 Second Amendment Action Day on the steps of the Capitol, and it was just incredible to watch the looks on everyone’s faces as the 11-year-old from Red Lion hit every note to perfection,” Saylor said. “We are honored she will again grace us with her amazing voice this Flag Day.”

Groups participating in organizing the event are: the Korean War Veterans Association of York Chapter 178, Red Lion Elks Lodge 1592, Red Lion American Legion Post 543, Red Lion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1446, Red Lion Borough, York County Veterans Affairs, and the Kaltreider-Benfer Library.

Since its creation in 1916, Flag Day has commemorated the adoption of the United States flag. From the 13 stars representing the original colonies to the present 50, the American flag has been a symbol of freedom and liberty throughout the world.
